Rural Track Program – Manning and Cheraw, SC
The McLeod Family Medicine Rural Residency is dedicated to graduate skilled physicians who are well-rounded and able to understand and treat the unique conditions of patients within the rural and underserved areas.
Unique Features
The new 1-2 rural training track will graduate skilled physicians whose commitment to intensive training in caring for patients prepares them to practice full-scope Family Medicine in rural/underserved areas.
The first year of training will be spent at McLeod Regional Medical Center with the core residency program in Florence, SC where training has been provided in Family Medicine for the past 40 years.
During PGYI, residents will be trained in advanced ICU, geriatrics, obstetric and pediatric skills. Our program benefits from a strong emphasis on procedures such as colonoscopy, EGD, and central line placement with an ultrasound curriculum, specialty clinics and classroom instruction. Our residents handle high volume inpatient and outpatient settings, while receiving hands-on experience in population health challenges.
The second and third years of training will be spent at one of the two sites; McLeod Clarendon located in Manning, SC or McLeod Cheraw located in Cheraw, SC. McLeod Clarendon has 81-beds along with recently renovated operating rooms, 24-hour emergency department, same-day surgery, and Health & Fitness Center. McLeod Cheraw has 59-beds along with an expanding list of cardiac, surgical, orthopedic, and other services. McLeod Cheraw has recently opened its new Emergency Department designed to allow for additional capacity with updated equipment and technology to serve surrounding counties.
