Urban Program with Rural Pathway – Bartlesville, OK
We are a full-range rural family medicine residency. The clinic schedules are structured enough to ensure that our residents can provide excellent primary medical care for their patients in a rural setting once they graduate. We allow the trainee to develop in areas specific to the needs of his/her future practice site and to meet individual expectations as a rural family physician.
We are a quality community-oriented primary health care facility. We offer our residents an academically sound learning opportunity in a rural setting. The first year of the program utilizes the educational resources of our parent Family Medicine program in Tulsa. The focus during the second and third years is on real-life and real-time experiences that prepare resident physicians to be successful in a rural primary care practice. This includes appropriate in-patient and ambulatory care experiences and significant interaction with primary care physicians in their rural practice sites.
During the PGY-2/PGY-3 years the rural training program utilizes clinics in the regional rural health network of Jane Phillips Medical Center. These clinics are staffed with local primary care providers, some of which are previous graduates from our program. We are the only residency program in our hospital which allows each resident adequate time with our volunteer faculty. In addition to the skills our residents acquire during their hospital rotations, they also learn procedural skills during their community health and GYN rotations at our local health department and free clinic where they also gain experience with the underserved population of our community.
We are looking for full-service high quality Family Medicine residents that can practice in any rural setting; that have an interest in providing quality medical care to our rural community and the underserved and want to live and practice in the state of Oklahoma.
